Master Dim Sum in Your Own Kitchen. Easy and Tasty!

I’ve always been a huge fan of dim sum. It’s the kind of food that feels fancy, but still super comforting. Honestly, I used to think making it at home would be complicated. But once I tried it myself, I realized it’s actually really simple, especially with the right ingredients. Here’s my go-to version using chicken, shrimp, and a few pantry staples.

🧂 Ingredients:

  • 250g ground chicken

  • 150g peeled shrimp, finely chopped

  • 2 tbsp tapioca starch

  • 1 egg

  • 1 tbsp sesame oil

  • 1 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tsp mushroom stock powder (or any broth powder you like)

  • 1 stalk green onion, finely sliced

  • 1 small carrot, grated or finely chopped

  • Store-bought dim sum wrappers (you can find them in the frozen section)

 Ingridients

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

  1. Mix the filling.
In a mixing bowl, combine the chicken, shrimp, tapioca starch, egg, sesame oil, soy sauce, mushroom powder, green onion, and carrot. Stir well until the mixture becomes sticky and well combined.

  2. Wrap the dim sum.
Take one wrapper, add about a teaspoon of filling to the center, and shape it however you like. I usually keep the top open like classic shumai, but you can get creative.

  3. Steam.
Place the dim sum in a steamer lined with parchment paper or cabbage leaves to prevent sticking. Steam over boiling water for about 15 minutes or until fully cooked.

  4. Serve.
Serve hot with soy sauce, chili oil, or your favorite dipping sauce. Best enjoyed fresh out of the steamer!

Cooked Dim Sum

Turns out, making dim sum at home isn’t that hard and it’s super fun! I love that you can tweak the filling to your taste, and it still turns out delicious. If you try this recipe, let me know how it goes. Happy cooking! 🥟✨
